Mentor eData (MeD) is a software engineering company that develops solutions to collect and analyze naturalistic driving data used by insurers, financial institutions and fleet training/operations. The company is collecting and growing the world’s largest database of robust telematics data with deployable big data analysis platforms (DriveInsight) and productized derivatives for a variety of markets. For example, MeD’s mobile app SDK was used to integrate data collection and scoring in a popular mobile navigation app called Navmii, released in March, 2015. In 6 months, over 250M miles and 13M trips have been recorded and analyzed from over 100,000 trip uploads a day. MeD has significant traction in all of the following market areas:
Training and Safety: Automated, data-driven performance assessment is becoming an essential part of live and virtual driver training, especially in the US Military. Commercial driver training and safety for the trucking industry involves 3.5M truck drivers and 15.5M trucks in the US alone.
Insurance: Auto: About 2,500 companies offer auto insurance in the US, paying out over $100B in claims annually. Losses can be offset by accurate risk calculations and premiums appropriate for actual risk, which increasingly is accomplished using driving behavior data as part of “usage-based insurance” or UBI.
Financial Risk: Driving data can be used to predict financial risk. MeD is partnered with an industry-leading risk assessment firm to collaboratively develop an industry-standard, validated Driving Score to be used for a variety of risk calculations.
